Exam Preparation
The most popular options are the IELTS and Cambridge exams (FCE & CAE) and for these, we have part-time group lessons once a week (normally Tuesday or Wednesday 2-5pm, 3H total).*)
As for TOEFL and TOIEC, we can provide individual lessons in the afternoon.
TIE (Test of Interactive English) (http://ielt.ie/) is an English language exam in Ireland, which is internationally recognized. It is the exam that most of the students with a student visa sit. ** This means that, not only is the TIE incorporated into our Intensive English but students who are sitting the TIE exam can, to a large extent, also avail of organised supervision by their teachers and school staff for free. In addition, the students can join the free TIE workshop, which is held at the school once a month. Of course, any students who need extra support can book 1-to-1 private lessons separately.Â
No matter which English exam you choose, the most important element is General English. You will not able to build your knowledge and increase your exam score without a good foundation in General English skills.Â
For this reason, at Avanti, we strongly recommend that students combine our morning Intensive English (=General English) class with an afternoon Exam Preparation class (group / 1-to-1 private).
Improving your overall English skills and building a good foundation, through the morning Intensive English class and then augmenting this with exam techniques, exam tips and working on the actual exam papers in the afternoon Exam Preparation class – this is the key to your success in your exam!
If you would like to go for an English language exam but are unsure which exam is best for you, please feel free to talk to us! We are happy to advise each student based on their levels, purpose, exam suitability etc.
* Different exams have different entry levels. For example, a minimum level required to be able to join the IELTS group class is B1 Intermediate. You can only join a group class, once you have reached the minimum level. This does not apply to 1-to-1 private lessons, where you can start at any level.
** All students with a student visa are expected to sit an end-of-course exam. Unless otherwise instructed by the student or their agency, all students are booked in for TIE initially. However, it is of course possible for you to change to another exam, if you wish to do so. In that case, please inform one of our staff as soon as your course starts.
